Ways to Use Olive Oil in Your Beauty Routine

Yes, you can grab some of that oily goodness out of your kitchen cabinet and slather yourself in it. I’m not saying you’d really want to do that, but it is actually good for your skin. Olive oil has some killer benefits and it’s something I always have on hand when it comes to skin health and moisturizing.

5 Great Ways to Use Olive Oil in your Natural Beauty Routine

What kind of good stuff does olive oil have in it?

Olive oil promotes elasticity, it’s FULL of natural antioxidants, and it contains a ton of vitamin A. It’s also got high amounts of vitamin E which is great for the prevention of aging signs. When you let olive oil soak into the skin, you get all of that good stuff.

Be aware though, if you want to use olive oil for your skin, make sure you only use organic, extra virgin olive oil. You will not get the same effects without this type of oil, and it’s much safer than non-organic choices since it is going to be absorbed through the skin.

Bathe With Olive Oil

Fill the bathtub up with steamy hot water and add in a few drops of lavender essential oil (or a different oil of choice). Next, rub your body down with olive oil and then just relax in the tub. Rinse off before getting out and the result will be super soft, healthy looking skin.

Treatment for Dry Hair

I kid you not, has been a lifesaver for my hair. We travel so much that my hair seems like it’s always going through some sort of transition period. When we were in Colorado last summer it was so dry that I’m surprised I wasn’t mistaken for a troll, and my Patagonia hat was my best friend.I was about to have my elbow-length hair chopped off, but after a shower one evening I decided to rub a decent amount of olive oil into my hair, and comb it through. I twirled my hair into a bun and slept with a towel over my pillow. I washed it out in the morning and it was a miracle I tell you! My hair was so soft and felt much healthier. I do this about once a month now for softer, healthier hair.

Cure Cracked Heels

Olive oil works similarly to the intense lotions you can purchase that moisturize to get rid of cracks in the skin. The great thing about it though is that it is chemical-free and as natural as it gets. If you want to get rid of cracks in your heels, massage a good amount of olive oil into the problem area, and put some old socks over your feet before bed. By morning most of the oil should have absorbed into the skin. Do this a few nights in a row and you’ll see some major improvements.

Ear Wax or Aches

Have you ever heard people say to use sweet oil for earaches? Olive oil is actually very similar. It has a couple of uses when it comes to the ears: You can let a few drops fall into the ears before cleaning them. This helps to break up the excess wax and help it make its way out of the ear canal.

You can also place it in the ears to help soothe aches. Just keep a cotton ball over the affected ear as well.

Makeup Remover

Many natural oils do wonders with makeup removal, and olive oil happens to be one of them. Massage it into the areas you want to remove the makeup, and then wipe the oil off with a wet, warm washcloth. You may have to do this a couple of times, but normally it wipes right off.

Shaving Cream

I’m not joking- you can use this stuff as a replacement for shaving cream. Just keep a little jar or bottle of it in the shower with you. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil and there you have it! Just rub it over the legs before you shave and you’ll be left with soft, smooth skin

The uses in this post are some of my favorite and I personally use them on a daily basis. If you’d like to learn a little more about using natural oils in your beauty routine, you might like to take a look at these posts too:

Winter Nature Scavenger Hunt Bingo

Winter is almost upon us and honestly, I’ve got the hardest time convincing myself to get outside and play with the kids. It’s one thing if it’s beautiful and snowing out, but it’s another if it’s just cold and gray, and let’s face it… ugly. I’m NOT a fan of cold weather, but there’s one thing I’ve learned since we started traveling full time, and that is that you’ve got to dress right if you want to enjoy the seasons! I’ve also learned that if you keep yourself cooped up in the house (or RV in our case), especially with small kids all day, you will go insane. It’s basically inevitable. We are a family of nature lovers during all of the other seasons, so I make it a point to get outdoors daily during the winter. We bundle up in our hats, coats, and oakiwear boots, and head outdoors. You would not believe how wonderful the fresh cold air feels when you are dressed right and you’ve been cooped up in the house for what seems like an eternity.

Since my Free Nature Bingo Printable was such a hit, I decided to make a super fun Wintertime Nature Bingo Scavenger Hunt Printable!

Slow Down Mama. Chores Can Wait, but Life Doesn’t.

slow down mama

Hey Mama,

I see you there looking down at your phone thinking about the next thing on your to-do list. Your kids are having a blast climbing trees or splashing in the water.

You take a look up long enough to say “good job honey,” or something similar, but did you realize you’re missing out on creating some lasting memories?

Let’s be honest, are they going to remember their mama with her face in her phone over her splashing along with them? No.

YEM slow down mama

So many of us have such a hard time stepping away from our “to-do’s” that we forget whats most important. Go play with your babies. Climb with them. Take them on a hike. Have a splash fight. They will remember that.

We live such busy lives that sometimes we need reminded. We need reminded that time is passing us by and our children are growing up.

What are they going to  remember about you when they’re grown? Keep that in mind next time your little one asks you to help them build a sand castle or be a customer at their mudpie restaurant.

I forget this myself at times and need a reminder every once in a while too:

I know you’re busy but this is my message to you: Slow down, Mama. Chores can wait. LIFE doesn’t wait. Live it now with your babies.

We all know you’re a wonderful mom, but sometimes too  much is asked of you. You’re you so you take it all on. Step away from it today and go play. Go dance silly with your kids. Go play fairies. what ever they want to do, do it with them. They cherish your attention more than anything; you’ll see it in their smiles and giggles. And I know you cherish them even more chores can wait. Message to mom. Slow down Mama.

Please, set your list aside this afternoon, you won’t regret it.

I wish I was reminded of this more before we chose to buy an RV and travel full time. Life is so much more simple now and I’m finally able to relax and realize that nothing is more important than spending time with my children. Have You Ever Dreamed of Traveling Full Time? We’re Doing it With Kids!

Hey guys! So, I have something to admit… our family did something a little crazy. We sold or stored most of our belongings, we rented our house, bought a camper, customized it to our needs, and left our hometown to travel the country.

Told you it was a little crazy! It’s something my husband and I have thought about for the past two years, and we finally did it. We’re traveling full time! Why? Well, we realized we weren’t living our lives the way we wanted to. Specifically for my husband, his life consisted of working constantly, sleeping, and filling any free time in with just being plain exhausted. We didn’t want to live our lives to pay bills. We didn’t want to live our lives to make money to buy the things we thought we needed to be happy. So, after much, much talking and planning, we did it. We changed the course of our lives over two months… and now we’re up in the mountains enjoying the sunshine and everything Colorado has to offer. We are living our life for us. My husband is achieving a closeness to our children that he never was able to have before because of work, and as a family, we are the happiest we’ve ever been.

I used to wonder why I couldn’t be happy even though I had everything most people always wanted. We had a house, nice cars, basically everything we could ever need, but I was just so incredibly stressed with bills and schedules and nonsense. So I changed my way of looking at life, and I’m glad to say that I’m finally truly happy. We have less material things now, but we’ve got all of the experiences and love we could ever need.

Others have gotten upset and told us that we’re irresponsible. They say to wait until our kids are grown to travel. I struggled with anxiety when it came to what people thought about our choice for a while, but then I realized that I can’t go on living my life in a way that I’m not satisfied just to make someone else feel better.

We feel like we want to experience the world with our children. We want to show them what it has to offer and make memories that they’ll keep with them forever, and traveling full time during their childhood is something they’ll never forget.

We’ve got our camper set up like a little home, and we just take it wherever our hearts desire. At the moment, we are staying at a campground in the High Rockies. Our kids are enjoying playing in the creeks and getting dirty every day, and my husband has plenty of time with us. We’re finding out that the world is a beautiful place, and we’re thankful that we made this crazy, wild, irresponsible, but wonderful decision. And so far, the best decision of our lives.

So, hopefully you’ll join us on our adventure from your computer screens! If you’s like to see what we’re up to, follow us on Instagram!
