Teaching Your Toddler How To Spell Their Name
I have always enjoyed seeing my little boy’s eyes light up when he realizes he has learned something new. When he learned to spell his name he was just so excited, and I could see an immediate boost in confidence. I have mentioned in previous posts that he is a typical little boy- he bores very easily and it is sometimes difficult for him to sit still. This can be a problem in a typical classroom setting, but since we are learning at home for now, I’ve come up with some fun ways for him to learn how to spell his name:
Grab those annoying, (and sometimes painful when in the bottom of your foot) blocks off of the living room floor, and stick a letter of your child’s name on each one. Viola, you have an awesome puzzle that your child can either line up or stack!
We had so much fun with this one! We worked together to come up with a song that spelled out his name, and we sing it all of the time.
“C-A-M-E-R-O-N he’s Cam-er-on and he’s my best friend!”
“C-A-M-E-R-O-N, that’s the way you spell Cameron!”
I would love to hear from all of you about other ways you have taught your children how to spell their names!
